Sounds of Science

Particle velocimeter floating from the surface.
Yesterday was the second to last day on the water. Getting some great weather out in Maui which is ideal for these last several experiments. They include measuring the acoustic particle motion near and away from the reef. This is likely the most important part of the sound field to the most fish and invertebrates but it has been poorly quantified to date. We were using a new tool, a particle velocimeter, to measure the sound field as we drift towards the reef.

Today (Tuesday) is our last day on the water.  Fingers crossed for more good weather, our last EAR deployment and a few more particle motion records!
