Tag Prep! Days before the research cruise we're testing the tags and future analyses at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This project is entitled "Acoustic behavior, baseline ecology and habitat use of pelagic odontocete species of concern." It will entail gently attaching non-invasive, suction-cup tags to Hawaiian false killer whales (insular population) and melon-headed whales. The plan is that the tags will record the sounds and 3-D underwater behavior of these animals.
