Tag Prep! Days before the research cruise we're testing the tags and future analyses at the
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
This project is entitled "Acoustic behavior, baseline ecology and
habitat use of pelagic odontocete species of concern." It will entail
gently attaching non-invasive, suction-cup tags to Hawaiian false killer
whales (insular population) and melon-headed whales. The plan is that
the tags will record the sounds and 3-D underwater behavior of these
animals.
